ATTN: Passionate Breathing Students
I’m recruiting future coaches to help clients overcome some of the most common health challenges today using the power of their own breath. As a certified Breath Coach, you’ll make a huge impact on your clients’ lives and earn a great living. Here are some reasons why it’s a great time to become a coach:
Did You Know?
Amazing Facts About Breathing
You can go for weeks without food, days without water, but only a few minutes without breathing. It has such an immediate impact on your mind and body that even the act of inhaling vs. exhaling affects your nervous system differently. It’s common to train in diet, exercise, and even hydration, but almost no one trains their breath. This is a huge missed opportunity for health-seekers.
The Coaching Opportunity
For certified coaches, there are three main teaching opportunities right now. Many coaches focus on work with private clients, creating individualized, solution-oriented sessions. They help people with stress management, sleep disorders, anxiety, or digestive problems. Private clients offer you a flexible schedule, great pay, and the opportunity to make a huge impact.
Next, you’ll have the opportunity to lead group classes in local yoga studios. These added-value classes give dedicated yoga students a deeper understanding of their breathing and enhance their personal practices. Lastly, workshop-style breathing sessions can be very effective in a variety of settings, but corporate clients and fitness centers are the key markets.

My Story
I started yoga in my early twenties, and I wanted to learn everything. Breathing came up in every class, so I asked all my teachers for more information. Here’s what I wanted to know: Why is breathing important? You say we should breathe deeply, but how deeply? You say breathe slowly, but how slowly? And why not breathe fast? I realized quickly that the yoga community pays lip service to breathing but doesn’t teach or understand it well at all.
I’ve practiced with some of the most esteemed teachers including some modern masters, and I was disappointed to discover that most had only a superficial understanding of breathing. Frustrated, I turned my research to the mainstream medical community and the world of extreme sports, and finally, I found answers.
Medical doctor, Patricia Gerbarg, has dedicated her career to breathing and her work, writing, and our conversations were hugely influential. I worked closely with a senior Buteyko breathing coach who taught me about the vital role of CO2. I also interviewed a number of record-setting free divers and daredevils like Wim Hof, who push breathing to the limits (not something I advocate). I came to learn that there is no mystery to breathing at all. The science of breath has been well-researched for over 100 years, but very few people had applied the actual science to the practices of yoga students. This seems crazy, but it’s true.
I’ve been teaching breathing since 2006.
Lucas has taught yoga breathing since 2006.
After nine months of research, here’s what I learned:
VIDEO: My TEDx talk on breathing
I was so excited by this new knowledge and so frustrated with the misinformation being passed around in the yoga community that I put together a TEDx Talk. So far, the response has been amazing, and it’s being watched by 10-20K people per day. As it turns out, many people were confused with all this “breathe deeply” advice too.
How it Works – Online Training
The course is 12 days long, and each day is focused on a core lesson, live Q&A, and one specific breathing exercise. Sessions start with the breathing practice of the day, we then move into the scheduled core lesson, and finish with breakout rooms where you get to practice what you learned. Next, Lucas answers every single question via a live Q&A, and then we share notes in our group forum.
All live sessions take place at 6 am California, 9 am NYC, 2 pm London, 3 pm Barcelona time (find your local time). If you’re unable to make the live sessions because of time zone or schedule conflicts, no problem as you’ll get access to the replays immediately the same day.
Plan for two hours per day for the duration of the course and set aside around two hours for your exam. Each student exam is individually reviewed with both written and verbal (audio) feedback. We’re here to support you every step of the way, and everything is in place to ensure your success.

Who is This Course For?
We have trainees who are completely new to teaching, and others who have taught in the mind-body world for years—everyone is welcome! There is no prerequisite to join, and some of our most successful graduates took their very first classes on this course.
About 20 percent of our trainees have no definite plans to teach, they just want to learn – that’s great! The remaining 80 percent usually plan to launch something new or add to what they are already doing. Whatever your intention, the most important thing is that you come with an excitement to learn, participate, and join the group. Our courses are highly interactive, so we want everyone to come ready to dive in.
Breathing vs. Meditation?
In traditional yoga, breathing is aways taught as a stepping stone toward states of sense withdrawal and meditation, but many of us – myself included – try to skip the logical steps. For new students, silent meditation can create anxiety, frustration, and even obsessive rumination. And the biggest problem? Frustration causes most people to quit.
Breathing is different. It’s fun and easy to practice. The counting gives you a mental focus, and the exercises are short and potent. Instead of dodging their daily breathing exercise, students look forward to it. Even more exciting, the measurable health benefits of breathing exercises are well documented and extremely reproducible. This means that with minimal training, students can experience profound results including stress relief, nervous system balance, mood stabilization, better sleep, improved digestion, and the ability to self-soothe at will.
With breathing practice, it puts you into a meditative state automatically. Think of breathing as an active form of meditation with all the same benefits. As a career yoga teacher, I can assure you that clients want results, not meditation awards, so the more I teach breathing, the happier my clients are with the results.

“I got more than I signed up for”
Thanks for a fantastic course! While I have practiced pranayama breathing (off and on) all my life, I never thought I could teach. You have given me the tools and the comfort to try. I got more out of the course than what I signed up for. I also liked your no-nonsense, straightforward approach.

“Got me out of my comfort zone”
I almost quit the class the second day when I found out about the exam videos, both for shyness and tech reasons. My hubby said he was proud of me for getting out of my comfort zone and taking the class. Your clear teaching style, patience, encouragement, and humor kept me going. I had enough confidence to give the videos a try – and I did it! I just can’t thank you enough for that. That was the cherry on top for me.

“I feel intense gratitude”
I had to give an hour-long breathing presentation to a group of executive coaches. I was kind of worried because I had no idea how to condense all I learned into one hour. I feel intense gratitude that Lucas provided an outline of how to conduct it and what to teach in that amount of time. It went really well. The other coaches were raving about it.
Kelly B
“I now feel more confident”
Thank you Lucas! I appreciate your no-nonsense approach. Teaching the science behind breathing grounded my learning. I now feel more confident as I expand my services to the corporate world. I couldn’t make the live classes but that didn’t diminish my experience. You are a great teacher.
